The Text:

Gen. 9:3-4 moving thing that  lives shall be food for you; even as the green herb have I given you all things.  But flesh with its life, which is its blood, you shall not eat.

The Context:
The world has been created and inhabited.  The humans have been expunged from the Garden of Eden.  God is disappointed in the people of the earth and decided to flood it and start over again.  God finds one person, Noach, blameless and upright in his generation, who can be he one to construct an ark and save two of each species of animal as well as his sons, their wives, and his own wife.  At the conclusion of the flood the ark is emptied.
What it Means for Advocates:

Much of the world’s population consumes a vegetarian diet.  Whether you are a vegetarian or not in the USA is a conscious choice.  Many people have the option of deciding what they want to eat but those living below the poverty line are not as fortunate.  The price of meat, poultry and fish is a substantial part of your food spending.  For a fixed period of time, perhaps a week or one month, experiment with a vegetarian diet.  Keep track of your food spending for the length of time and take note if you spend more or less.  Do you notice that you are eating more of any type of food as a replacement for meat?  What is the experience like of going out for dinner with friends?
