The Text:

No specific texts deal with hunger or poverty.

The Context:

Careful description of the construction of the Tabernacle to house God’s presence is outlined in this Torah portion.

What it Means for Advocates:

This week’s Torah portion reminds us about the beauty in the world around us because even as God provides instructions for the construction of the Tabernacle, natural products are wheat constitute the building materials.  Take a moment to appreciate the beauty of the fresh produce that is before you the next time you eat a meal.

Do some research, from where in the world or the country was this produce grown?  How might the production and travel of this vegetable or fruit effected or changed its makeup?  Do you know the worker or farmer who picked this produce?  Did they make an appropriate amount of money to live off the cost of the item?  Were the working conditions safe, could the herbicides or pesticides be harmful to the health of the farmer?

How does all of this change your consumption experience?  Should it?
