The Text:

Gen 27: 1-4 it came to pass, that when Isaac was old, and his eyes were dim, so that he could not see, he called Esau his eldest son, and said to him, My son; and he said to him, Behold, here am I.  And he said, Behold now, I am old, I know not the day of my death;  Now therefore take, I beg you, your weapons, your quiver and your bow and go out to the field, and catch me some venison;  And make me savory food, such as I love, and bring it to me, that I may eat; that my soul may bless you before I die.

The Context:

Abraham dies.  Isaac’s wife Rebecca gives birth to twins, Esau and Jacob.

What it Means for Advocates:

Most states have regulations requiring that all prepared foods be consumed or discarded within a specified number of hours.  Tons of food are wasted everyday.  Think about joining together with your synagogue, community center, chavurah, or office team and volunteer yourselves to a few local restaurants to deliver their food that must be discarded to local organizations that can use it!
